Everything changed in a matter of months. It was a hard time to be in real estate, but by adapting my approach, I was able to make it through. Along the way, I learned many valuable lessons that I still use to this day.
There were so many unknowns – no one could predict how long it would last. The 2008 market crash was one of the most challenging times of my life. My business was directly affected as a REALTOR® and co-owner of a construction company. It was an unprecedented time, and everyone was scared. We didn’t know what to expect or how we would have to handle the coming months and years. My top priority was continuing to create stability for my family.
Real estate has always been a part of my life. My daddy co-owned a mobile home dealership, and I worked there while I was in college. It sparked my interest in helping people through big financial decisions. I enjoyed playing a helpful role in the process and ensuring everyone got exactly what they wanted. It fulfilled my desire to serve and be a trusted guide for others.
While in college, I purchased a 10-acre plot of land and started developing it. Building something that would translate into a profit was very satisfying to me. The natural next step was to get my real estate license after college. From there, I continued growing my business as a REALTOR® and co-owner of the construction company.
When the market crashed, I wasn’t willing to lie down and give up. A different market requires a different approach. I applied to HUD to work with their foreclosure properties. Fortunately, they awarded me a contract that spanned over three years. It allowed me to continue doing what I love while also providing for my family. My business partner and I made similar adjustments for our construction company. We had been specializing in building homes, but people could no longer afford to build. We transitioned into commercial and industrial projects instead. We couldn’t predict the effect these changes would have at the time, but they ultimately transformed our businesses.
My adjustments kept me in the real estate business through those difficult years following 2008. I was relieved as I continued to find new ways to remain in the industry. It gave me a new perspective on how I approach my business. When there is a challenge, I know I have the skills and knowledge to learn, adapt and overcome. By pushing through the hard times, I learned many valuable lessons and was able to continue working in the industry I love.
In recent years, my daddy has joined me in real estate. It has been exciting watching him experience all the wonderful things that make this industry such a rewarding one to be a part of. It means the world to me that we get to work together and create a legacy my children will be proud to be a part of if they choose to. My career has allowed me to be very involved in the lives of my children, Christopher and Chance. If I want to have lunch with them at school or go to a sporting event, I have the flexibility and freedom to do so.
Today, my business is stronger and better than ever. All the hard work I put in during those challenging years has paid off. My wife, Shannon, and I have also achieved one of our greatest dreams – building our own home. We have been here three years now and couldn’t be happier. With my success in real estate, I have made it a priority to serve my community. Faith helped carry me through difficult times. I prioritize volunteering at my church and have served in many roles, including deacon, Sunday school teacher and greeter. I am grateful and truly blessed with the life I have today, and I’m thankful for the lessons I have learned along the way.
I have lived in the Sandhills of North Carolina for most of my life. It is important to me to continue helping families in my community achieve their goals. In the process of buying or selling, many of my clients end up as friends. As we work together, I take the time to get to know you and offer my support. This isn’t just a house, it’s a home. Every detail matters, and I aim to meet all your needs along the way.
Since 2004, I have worked as a REALTOR® and sought to go above and beyond for my clients. I have worked with residential, commercial and investment properties and have a deep understanding of construction and property management. My goal is to cover every element of a transaction and offer the resources needed to make buying or selling a stress-free experience. Even after the sale is over, I am committed to supporting you as your REALTOR® for life.
